I think what Jeff is pointing out is that it isn’t uncommon for someone to be misinterpreted as a misogynist and, when called out, decide to lean into the misogyny rather than away, even if it wasn’t their original intention. In this instance, it’s a miscommunication that the OP handled in a way that made me laugh out loud, but I think Jeff is right, that there are also people who, in the same situation would have responded something to the effect of “I was talking about her vision. Maybe if you women weren’t all so [insert twitter-typical misogyny here]”, etc etc. Obviously that isn’t what happened here, but it has been known to.

6·8 days agoLmao, but I’ve found it’s less about being cool and more about being firm. I’ve got three friends that I told very plainly “I will no longer be reachable via SMS, please use Signal”. Bear in mind that 1) these are people who love me a lot, more like family than friends, and 2) I didn’t try to shame them or demand they stop using SMS entirely. I just said “this is how you reach me now”. All three installed Signal, and one of them now uses it as their primary method of text communication like I do.
Not saying it’s easy necessarily, and I doubt this method would work for acquaintances rather than family or close friends. But every little helps, and it’s a place to start.

3·10 days agoSeems like a bunch of lawsuits waiting to happen. You know one of these toolbags is gonna point at a cis woman with a double mastectomy and baldness from chemo and be like “that’s a man!” Seems like she’d have a good case.
The genre of pop music was built off using instrumentation and song structures common in popular music, hence the name. Not sure why this is confusing, but I’m also not interested in talking to you anymore, so ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I’m not saying that all pop music is actually popular, I’m saying that the origin of the term “pop music” is “popular music”.
It literally does stand for popular music.
Funny, cuz lots of the ones who say “ew less than 100k listens” will also say they’re not into pop music. Wondering what they think “pop” is short for lmao

131·15 days agoThis absolutely is the average experience for young women on social media, and moreover it’s the intended experience. Making girls feel like shit about themselves has gotten powerful men money, sex, and more power for a very very long time.

91·16 days agoIt’s not a “Very Online” take, it’s a “paying any modicum of attention” take. Willful ignorance is not a valid excuse for anything, and if your boss truly thinks of Elon Musk (the richest man in the world who has bought elections and media platforms and every American’s social security number) the same way that you think of some random hockey player, then your boss is being willfully ignorant. It’s giving “i’M nOt pOLiTiCaL”, which we all know is just cowardese for “conservative”.

10·20 days agoThey’ve signed with an OEM (still secret atm, but the best guess seems to be Motorola?) who will produce the first flagship GrapheneOS device sometime this or next year iirc. Supposed to be revealing the manufacturer next month. That’ll at least take some of the Google dependency by having to use Pixels.

1·1 month agoCool. Who owns the OS on the TV or the app store where you downloaded JF and SL?
I think the problem is that, at some point, the powers that be decided that “better” is synonymous with “more appended zeroes”. We (and presumably any society) could ostensibly have kept growing indefinitely, provided we agreed that the ever-increasing personal wealth of the few (to the detriment of the many) does not constitute growth.
