I suppose one interpretation is that companies can no longer use “buy” and will have to use “rent” for that transaction.
My major issue with copyright is how published works can have major cultural significance. How it can shift ideas and shape minds. But your not allowed to have some fun with on a personal level. How can it be the norm that the most important scientific knowledge and other culturally significant material is locked behind such restrictive measures. Essentially ensuring that middle class and especially poor people are locked out.
If you publish something, even if it’s paid, you don’t deserve such restrictive rights. You deserve to be compensated for your work but you don’t deserve to make it into a extortion racket.
My view on your second point is if you have posted it publicly with no paywall, maybe you should still get some percentage revenue but you don’t have a say in what it can be used. To place restrictions on what it can be used for when posting it publicly is academic as it’s basically unenforceable.
We live in a society which revolves around the discovery and sharing of ideas. We are all entitled to a certain amount of the sharing of that information. That’s the whole point. To have some business man who was in the right place at the right time create an extortion racket out of something culturally significant they almost certainly didn’t create is wrong.
Sorry if this is all over the place. I’m writing this while tired.
All the AI race has done is surface the long standing issue of how broken copyright is for the online internet era. Artists should be compensated but trying to do that using the traditional model which was originally designed with physical, non infinitely copyable goods in mind is just asinine.
One such model could be to make the copyright owner automatically assigned by first upload on any platform that supports the API. An API provided and enforced by the US copyright office. A percentage of the end use case can be paid back as royalties. I haven’t really thought out this model much further than this.
Machine learning is here to say and is a useful tool that can be used for good and evil things alike.
Dumbass. YouTube has single-handedly proven how broken the copyright system is and this dick wants to make it worse. There needs to be a fair-er rebalancing of how people are compensated and for how long.
What exactly that looks like I’m not sure but I do know that upholding the current system is not the answer.
I think @Ilandar is just trying to find a second best solution that’s easier to do on the go. Like while hiking or camping.
DeArrow by the same developer as SponsorBlock seems to be actively developed and community contributions are fast.
Is this limited to ABC iView and maybe SBS? I hope it doesn’t include the others. God, can you imagine SkyNews coming preinstalled. Ugh.
I guess the argument is if your TV is going to come preloaded with subscription crap to provide easier access, then taxpayer funded “local” content should be just as easy to access. I think it’s a fair decision to have ABC iView, maybe SBS. God, can you imagine SkyNews coming preinstalled. Ugh.
I don’t see the big deal. If the big American media companies get to have their apps preinstalled then I don’t see why local channels shouldn’t get the same treatment.
My bias is I would never connect my TV to the internet anyway.
You aren’t dynamically changing configs, libraries and programs on a production server like you are on a user facing system. That the killer. Linux servers are only stable when you leave them alone.
Updates to servers are generally done by beta testing them on identical hardware in the lab and when you have a functioning image you send that to production. To expect that kind of treatment on a user facing system when you say update the web browser would be beyond unacceptable.
As long as GNU/Linux systems continue to have ABI compatibility issues and general buggy issues between updates, it will never be considered a decent user facing system.
Also the quality of code for CLI programs is far more roadtested than GUI related code since there are major corporate efforts to make Linux servers more stable. Since GUI systems aren’t needed for servers they don’t get the same level of attention. That attention comes from the KDE and gnome foundations which don’t have nearly the same kind of money.
There’s a reason people are celebrating Valve contributing to KDE and related GUI projects as there’s finally some real money being thrown at the problem with real results.
openAI anyone?
I mean I know that !homelabsales@lemmy.world exists but including my post there are two submissions. I guess I was wondering if there was a more active community that I missed. So far things have been really inactive.
It’s the ultimate cash grab in my opinion. Just imagine how much faster the SSD will wear out from all the swap that’ll be needed. The SOLDERED SSD.
Are you Jeremy Clarkson cause I can only read this in his voice. XD
The question should be why the hell is there even a ticketing system. Can you imagine how much money the government would save by eliminating the private company running the opal system (who have their own costs of servicing the boom gates), ticket inspectors and maybe even encouraging more people to use public transport by the lower friction of use.
Yes I am aware of that solution. I should have clarified the goal of the exercise. I’m trying to work out if I can make an easily interoperable system where a singlemode fiber wall jack fed from a 40G switch can act as a both a 10G or 40G port as needed depending on what ethernet card the client is using. I am using singlemode as I want to avoid using MTP multimode cable seeing how much more expensive it is than simple lc-lc singlemode.
What about laptop battery life? More CPU usage = less battery life. WHY DOES NO ONE GIVE A FUCK ABOUT BATTERY LIFE???
The single most reason I switched from Spotify to Apple Music is that I was sick of seeing the Spotify macOS app at the top of the “High Battery Usage” page on Activity Monitor. I also actually noticed less battery life. Fuck Electron. I avoid apps made in it like the plague.
Doesn’t Windows 10 already do that? I could never get the freaking thing to leave my files behind and disable itself.
Windows 10 LTSC for the win if you have software you can’t yet abandon.
