Earlier this year, Geoffrey Hinton, dubbed the “Godfather of AI,” highlighted the severe wealth disparity that AI developments could generate.
“We’re talking about having a huge increase in productivity. So there’s going to be more goods and services for everybody. So everybody ought to be better off, but actually it’s going to be the other way around,” Hinton stated during a panel discussion. “And it’s because we live in a capitalist society.”
“And so what’s going to happen is: this huge increase in productivity is going to make much more money for the big companies and the rich, and it’s going to increase the gap between the rich and the people who lose their jobs. And as soon as you increase that gap, you get fertile ground for fascism,” he continued. “And so it’s very scary that we may be at a point where we’re just making things worse and worse.”
This seems spot-on to me. All you downvoters obviously didn’t read the article.

Yeah I ran into this as well. Wondered why it needs a call to auth for public container images in the first place.
In desktop effects disable the default blur and enable this one, I think it is called better blur or something.
There is also a blur package in AUR that works fine for me (I don’t use kvantum). Only gripe is you sometimes need to recompile (clean reinstall) after a Plasma update.

I laugh at all these desperate “AI good!” articles. Maybe the bubble will pop sooner than I thought.
I have had quite a few nvidia cards in my linux systems and all ran fine, except for a while when Wayland came along. Those issues have now been fixed as well. Your experience may vary ofcourse depending on the hard and software you use. But there is no reason to not use Nvidia on Linux.
That being said, I switched to AMD recently and had some issues with suspend and resume so it is not like AMD is the holy grail for Linux systems. I made the switch because of the opensource drivers and Nvidia being greedy fucks.
How’s the camera. Compared to say samsung or iphone if you had any of those before.
No, one version at a time. Took only an hour or so.
No experience with debian 13 yet, but I once upgraded a server from 7 to 12 without a single issue which was quite amazing.
