I feel you, it’s a bit chaotic in here for now.
That said, Lemmy is open source and that means if you really want something to change you can literally write the code yourself and make a pull request, and because we don’t have to appeal to anyone except the users, all options are on the table.
Development issues
They enabled it, it was broken and the implementation sucked, so they removed it again. But hey if you are pissed about it, feel free to help - you can fork the GitHub project and then fix it yourself :)
Also remember everyone working on it is volunteering. Cut them some slack, all of them have normal jobs as well.
unfortunately liftoff is not at all working for me currently.
I logged in and now my subscribed community posts are just empty, which is the whole point.

don’t worry, they’re coming. a bunch of bigger third party app Devs have said they will make an app for Lemmy, and that will include iOS apps as well I’m sure. it’s just a matter of time.
unfortunately my dad who has a diploma in engineering and is working in that field for probably 30y now is still prone to it.
Whoever spread those conspiracies should die a slow and painful death to experience a fraction of what they brought on to a lot of families and friends.
Definitely should put that on the git issues with log files and stuff.

Thanks for the level headed response. Everyone deserves their own space to share opinions, even if you and me don’t like them. That’s what Lemmy and kbin are ultimately far better at than Reddit and similar.

I’m very interested what his game plan is, because he kind fucked himself by firing too many law compliance employees, at least thats what I remember.
For some reason, this whole chaos is more true to the Reddit I know than everything has been for the last years.
That would make the decision even more short sighted.
It won’t end with AI moderation, It will end with moderation that is very exploitable, bad to adjust to all subreddits and because of this whole mess they will drive community engagement into the ground. And that is without even so much as taking a peak on the possible affects to the IPO. It’s gonna be mess, even if the platform survives.
“subreddits belong to the community of users who come to the for support” good way to justify kicking a mod with a passion for such a community and forcing people to post only the things you want.
Because if you force people to have fun they’ll be happy, of course.

It’s so impressive to see how the whole community is coming together to basically rebuild Reddit, but open source, and with all the feature everyone needed.
I’ll stay here forever if we keep it up.

Morally? Nah that train left.
Technically? I guess when it comes to user counts and influence there’s nothing really to gain and a lot to lose as well.
Monetarily? Nope. They lost trust, which loses users and stability as well as belief in the platform. They will decrease earnings from investors, selling user data and potential ads.

I switched to Top Day on jerboa and now everytime I reopen the app it switches back to “Old”
It is. GDPR in the EU dictates that every user which requests their information has to get it in 30 days, and every user who removes their information has to be able to get it removed (I think the time span for that is even shorter, so more pressure for the server admins)

Their software does not fundamentally work very well. So even if this bs would be talking about an actual feature, that’s some stone age project management right there.
