Welcome. It’s good to know that your comments won’t get deeply buried in a thread that was posted 15 min ago. It’s still a small community so there’s a great chance of good interaction (at least in my experience using it for a few days now).

Just cancelled prime a few days ago and yea it was a pain. I love all the small shady crap like using a grey text box for the “cancel membership” button and the blue one for “resume membership” followed by another page full of reasons why you shouldn’t cancel and double checking to make sure you know your losing the benefits. I swear it might’ve been a total of 4-5 pages.
Side note, more companies need to be held accountable for this as well. There are a lot of streaming services that do the same thing.
Hasn’t even been a full week since I opened my account and the growth I have seen every day has been INSANE. From <50 upvotes, <20 comments, and <5 boosts 100+ upvotes and comments in the span of 5 days has been pretty cool to see.
WORKS like the old Wild West of Web 2.0
Well said
I’m hoping that now that we have seen a fair share of social media companies rise and fall and why they’ve fallen, many people will begin to find out what they are looking for in a social media network.
Jury is till out it’s way too early to tell. The fediverse seems very unrefined still (which I kind of enjoy tbh). If its truly going “save the internet”, a lot of refining needs to be done in order to attract at a mainstream scale.
It’s been really refreshing so far though.
And the awards as well. I mean the amount of new awards I have seen introduced in Reddit just in the past 3 years has excessive and kind of cringeworthy tbh.
There was a definite change in the way discourse was had in r/politics, r/news, among others over the years. But I would say that’s just a societal thing as of late.
Unfortunately, I do believe it’ll happen here eventually.
You can try changing appearance theme found in the settings (gear) icon towards the bottom. Helped with differentiating comments.
I do agree that UI needs improvement which will eventually come.
What really did it for me was Huffman’s quote on how “Reddit users, communities, and discussions are one of the largest data sets that cannot be given away for free” (summarized quote).
The rumored IPO made an entire corporation do a 180 so ruthlessly and clumsily in a way that I have never seen. It’s destroying itself and rightfully so.
Exactly. Reddit itself should be a case study. Lemmy and Kbin offer an opportunity to build something great and learn from what made current Reddit (the good and the terrible) what it is and some things to avoid.
Havnt checked so honestly wouldn’t know. Now that I think of it, it’s kind of crazy that Kbin replaced it so easily for me and I am on it far less (which is a good thing tbh).
It’s also testament to how good the experience here has been so far. And how crap reddits response as been.
