As far as I know it’s dangerous play, because you’d be making it impossible for anyone to challenge the ball without things getting dangerous. You’re supposed to defend the ball by using your athleticism to fend off your opponents, not by using medieval battlefield tactics to force a siege.

Gnome is more stable in my experience. The base Gnome without any extensions is rock solid and just works without a hitch. Problem is that it’s bland as hell and not very practical. Most of the popular extensions to make the DE are also pretty solid and reliable, as gnome’s extension API doesn’t really allow them to break anything in any spectacular way. Plasma allows better and more powerful extensions, but they also tend to have a bigger effect on the DE’s stability.

That said, I fucking hate how Gnome devs handle the extension API. Every update to Gnome disables all the extensions even if there’s no breaking changes that would cause them to stop working. You gotta either manually edit their manifest files to trick Gnome into thinking they’ve been updated to the latest DE version, or you gotta wait for the devs to update. Every now and then they do release a breaking change that does break things too, and things get annoying. I used to maintain a relatively popular-ish, very simple Gnome extension. But eventually I got sick and abandoned because nobody’s got time to deal with Gnome’s extension API. I had to rewrite some basic shit for no good reason one too many times.

Because android means ARM, and I want there to be more mobile ARM devices that can run regular ol’ Linux. Currently there aren’t very many of those that aren’t either Apple (and therefore mostly useless because Apple tries hard to make sure Linux doesn’t run very well on their hardware) or otherwise pretty expensive. Who knows, maybe these turn out to be good low cost ARM Linux machines. Though I won’t be holding my breath.

I once had a problem with Vodafone. I tried calling customer support but, to the surprise of absolutely nobody, the automated answering machine got me exactly nowhere. It also refused to connect me to an actual human being. So I went to my nearest Vodafone store. They said they aren’t allowed to do anything except create a support ticket in my name. I said yes please do that. They said okay, someone will call you soon.

Someone did call me very soon. The lady said she was calling from Vodafone customer support, is this Herrvogel? I said yes this is he. She hung up immediately. The end.

Either your eyes are bad or the files you’ve watched. There’s an absolutely enormous difference between 720p and proper 4k with a decent bitrate. Also a decent display with good HDR can add a lot as well.

Ultrasonic vibrations have been successfully used to make cutting tools more effective for a long time. It doesn’t make the cutting edge sharper or amplify the force, it just moves it back and forth slightly, in microscopic imitations of a cutting motion. That does work. Though at the end of the day it won’t magically make a dull knife sharp.

Theoretically this knife could very well do both of those things. Probably not well enough to be worth 425 dollars, but probably entire useless either.

Many years ago I was out in the woods camping with friends. One night we got woken up by terrified screams from the other tent. We threw ourselves out to see wtf was happening. Turns out there was a big ass centipede in the tent with the guys, and they were just tumbling over each other like panicking clothes in washing machine, trying to smack the centipede with whatever they could get their hands on. It was funny to watch the tent rock back and forth with screams coming from the inside.

Some years before that, I was out at sea, snorkeling with a friend. I saw a gorgeous, huge, sea urchin shell at the bottom, so I dived down to grab it. A fucking centipede launched itself out of the sea urchin shell and swam past my head and up to the surface. That day I learned some centipedes live in the sea. That was not funny. That was absolutely terrifying. I did scream like a little bitch.

It’s tribal yet futuristic.

Some of them actually have active air circulation, with small battery powered fans and whatnot. I doubt a medieval knight had that, though I am not a medieval armorologistician.

Because calibre also allows me to convert other formats into epub.

Some files are unreadable garbage because of bad OCR or bad formatting or whatever. I use calibre to preview files in its built-in viewer, to see how they would be rendered on my actual reader. Helps a ton.

Some files have messed up metadata. Calibre helps with fixing that. I have encountered files that would appear as documents on my Kindle rather than books, for example. Easy fix with calibre.

Even if it is not messed up per se, I still sometimes use calibre to sometimes edit metadata to tidy them up. So that the author information between different books of the same series is the same, for example. “Banks, Iain M.” for all the Culture books, rather than a wild mess of various different variations of the same name. I have also added missing pieces of information to help group books in my library etc.

It’s a super useful tool. I just wish it didn’t spam so many system notifications though.

Xiaomi bootloaders used to work like that. You’d have to jump through some bullshit hoops to register your phone for bootloader unlocking, and then wait a few days to finally be able to unlock it. Then they made that worse and worse, and afaik it’s so insanely difficult and inconvenient right now that it’s practically impossible to unlock your Xiaomi phone’s bootloader. This applies to all the brands under that umbrella.

I am about 97.37% sure Google will do the same over time and at some point you just won’t be able to install any APKs.
