The world is where it is because we decided to let everbody have the same voice.
We clearly live in different realities.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Why don't movie ratings just have letters indicating objectionable material?
1·19 days agoI find arguments like this a bit silly. I believe that religion has to be confined to personal life, and religious harm has to be reduced through a socialist government, but religious people killing others is an idealist argument. Religious people didn’t just kill because of ideals, but rather because of the material reality that gave rise to their religion. I personally believe that religion, like the state, might wither away through socialism, but just like the state, it’s about handling class contradictions and engaging through a historical and materialist lens, else we’re just being idealistic ourselves. Not only that, but practically speaking many of our comrades are religious, as long as they agree with us on examining society through diamat and commit to reducing religious harm, I don’t care if they pray or not. Let their religious views inspire them towards positive change, and influence their own religious communities through organizing.

2·19 days agoIt’s silly and arbitrary, but it may be very relevant for a good chunk of the US audience lol
People hate AI because they were told they would not be able to get a job anymore, and many people got fired over it.
I’ve gone through a few automated security reports out of curiosity and they were bizarre rather than useful. I’m sure for stuff like the kernel it’s actually very useful and important, but I’m skeptical that the economics of agents make sense for anyone other than big governments and corpos running them, so rather than random hackers I expect corporate espionage to make use of these tools, considering how expensive it is to get the hardware you need to run open models, then how expensive it is to keep it running and cooling, and then the fact that it will degrade with use.
I’m sure it will get more efficient eventually, or at the very least it will be much cheaper to acquire the hardware needed for these models in a few years as China keeps developing its silicon industry, then it will be cheaper for random folks to use these tools for detecting vulnerabilities on random systems, but as it stands today these machines burn absurd amounts of money, and for the applications I’ve interacted with, the bugs were very much irrelevant as they required giving the end user access to internal apis and not use any sanity checks, which is absurd with everything that’s user input related.
To me it was a matter of getting tired of imperialist and bigoted stuff, before that I used one that styles itself as apolitical, naively thinking they’d be at least somewhat better than Reddit. But nope, same reactionary, racist shit.

That’s how I feel about autocompletion and scaffolding, we’ve had LSPs and code generators for years, and they’re exponentially less wasteful

6·19 days agoI mean, I use it because I’m forced to, but I don’t feel much in productivity gains (not using agents though). Sometimes it’s very, very handy, but most of the time it’s like talking to the stupidest rubber ducky, and the frustration it gives me is not worth that imo. Others might make a different calculation, but ultimately if search engines didn’t enshitify themselves into obsoletion, and LLMs didn’t produce the worst, most verbose, and sometimes objectively wrong documentation, I’d not see an upside at all. But here we are.
You need better reading comprehension.
I agree, I used to be a Duolingo user but over time they pushed me to seek alternatives and LingoDeer is such a better app. It’s probably the best in language learning apps at the moment.

I spent every other evening for a week trying to install fedora.
Skill issue.
As long as there’s moderation, there will be bias. I agree with most of what you said though.
