This is a rambling of how Wayland supposedly forces everybody to use GNOME, which is BS.

The rant even includes an admission that the author didn’t even know what Wayland was when it was written.

Please add more examples to the list.

How about an example of Wayland forcing me to use GNOME like this rant alleges? I hate GNOME but have been using KDE with Wayland for like two years now.

Great. I’m not using a Dell. I have a laptop from a company that supposedly supports Linux first. A company I will not be buying anything from in the future either.

The awful screen is one big reason I don’t use my System76 laptop more often. It’s the worst laptop screen I’ve ever seen, has terrible light bleed, and has a pink tint. And this is the warranty replacement they tried to charge me for. The first one had the same awful screen, but kept freezing on me randomly.

And the damn thing STILL has hardware features that only work on Windows 10, five years later (like multi-finger trackpad gestures). I’ll take System76 seriously when they start putting good screens in their laptops and get rid of nvidia.

And it’s definitely not helping that the biggest Mastodon instance for artists is pretending to be progressive while being hostile to the LGBT community. Mastodon has a chance to snatch up artists who are pissed off about Twitter, and of course they’re going to check out mastodon.art not knowing about their bullshit.

I’m not sure what the solution to that should be, however. Take down mastodon.art? I’ve been telling people to avoid that instance, but non-techie people don’t understand that the Mastodon developers don’t own it.

I have a System76 Kudu from 2018. I won’t buy anything from them again, honestly. It was overpriced for what it was, and the screen is awful. And it still has features that only work on Windows 10. Not at all what I expected from a company that claims to be Linux-first.

I’m using the latest Plasma on Wayland on Arch and NONE of those gestures work!!

I wish Wayland had support for multi-finger gestures. I know my System76 laptop’s trackpad supports them on Windows, but Windows is trash. I use them all the time on my Mac, but I just use a mouse on Linux.

And none of this will ever get fixed in the current US political climate. MAGA has taken over the Republican party, and Democrats can do whatever the fuck they want because people will defend them with “Doesn’t matter because Trump exists.”

The MAGA cult wants us to return to Biblical times and values, while Democrats pretend to be outraged at Republicans while they’re doing the same damn shit (like racism and bailing out the rich).

Every other developed country has universal healthcare, while the best we could do is impose a tax on people who can’t afford health insurance.

People are too afraid to call out their own side’s bullshit.

Chrome runs like garbage compared to Firefox, and this has always been the case for me. I didn’t make the switch in 2008. I also had a bad feeling that Chrome would become the new IE with every other browser ditching their own rendering engine and basing on Chromium.

People back then said it was OK because Chromium is ostensibly open-source. Look where that got us. Surprise, it’s still controlled by Google!

Elected Democrat officials caused people to die of non-covid causes by denying them access to things like Alcoholics Anonymous and other programs to sober up.

Elected Democrat officials hurt development of children with lockdowns lasting more than a year.

Elected Democrats granted exceptions to the covid restrictions of 2020 and 2021 to protests they agreed with while demanding that small businesses and parks stay closed for “social distancing.”

Elected officials printed a shit ton of money to bail corporations out for covid and then act like they have no clue why inflation is so bad.

Elected officials put thousands of my unionized brothers and sisters out of work with executive orders.

Elected officials caused domestic violence to skyrocket, mental health to decline, and now they’re talking about more lockdowns after promising that anyone getting the vaccines would not spread the virus.

Elected Democrats can’t even be bothered to codify things like abortion and gay marriage, but it’s always someone else’s fault, fodder for the next election cycle.

My point is, neither side actually gives a shit. I agree with most of what you’re saying about Republicans, but Democrats just do not give a shit either. They just play the blame game. Nothing will get done because all of these politicians are laughing their way to the bank while everybody else bickers.

First of all, not every conservative is a Trump supporter. Second, there are a number of loud liberals on TikTok who have said things like “cis people need to delete themselves.” It goes both ways.

Assuming everybody who votes differently from you or is in the opposing party is exactly the same is just as harmful as taking for granted that everything everybody on your side does or says is 100% correct. This binary view of politics has been exacerbated by social media, and it is doing a lot of harm. Both sides are basically at the point where they’re convinced that the other side wants them dead. It’s fucking crazy.

I disagree. Too many people take one side or the other, take for granted that their side is 100% correct, and refuse to believe anyone could possibly be center.
