Either we get affordable code-compliant housing or we get affordable shanty towns.

Here in the US the trash just piles up in landfills or gets shipped elsewhere. Some does get recycled, but not nearly enough.
In other sectors, we’ve got things like factories polluting poor minorities, and an airforce that can’t stop letting their forever chemicals leak into the environment…
Sounds like things are generally more progressive in Sweden, although the recent trends you mentioned are worrisome. It’s unfortunate some people are willing to sabotage our future for a slighly more comfortable present :/
Yeah, plasma gasification ftw. It apparently takes care of all municiple solid waste:

Despite media reporting that she was beaten by Hamas, Argamani went to social media on Friday to say that her words had been taken out of context. She said she was not beaten and her hair was not cut.
“I said, I had cuts all over my head and I was hurt all over my body.” Argamani emphasized that her wounds came from the collapse of a building after it was bombed by the IAF.
“As a victim of October 7, I will not allow myself to be victimized once again by the media,” she said.
And let me be clear. And let me be clear. I will always stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself, and I will always ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself
The US will keep saying this while continuing to give Israel offensive weapons along with defensive ones.
I should have mentioned my previous usage. At at one point I was using up to three level teapoons a day, which would amount to about 7 & 1/2 gpd. I didn’t do that for very long, as I wasn’t in extreme physical pain.
It’s odd how some people experience withdrawals and others don’t. I’ve gone cold turkey several times and didn’t have a bad time at all. Maybe a runny nose and some sleepiness, and that’s it.
I agree it should not be sold to minors and that it should include harm-reduction info. We do it for alcohol and tobacco, after all.
With climate change causing massive heat waves, everyone probably realized they could have Burning Man at home…
This is mpox, so it’s not monkeys you need to avoid, only MPs… Spread the word!
I’ve taken it for years with no issue except constipation from time to time. Kratom is about as impactful to me as an acetaminophen pill and a couple cups of coffee, which is good since I have to be careful about which substances I put into my body. I take one teaspoon infrequently. The key to taking it is to not take too much. Less=more, since higher dosages start having an inverse effect.
Articles like this one only seem to be creating hysteria where none should exist. We need more proper studies on the plant, but for now people should treat it like anything else: don’t overdo it. I mean, you wouldn’t take 15 acetaminophen tablets, and likewise you shouldn’t take dozens of grams of kratom at once.
Disclaimer: some people can’t keep their dosages low and they will develop a problem, so be careful with the stuff (or don’t even try it if you are worried about becoming addicted).
Only eight :|
One time when I worked at a hardware store, I was loading concrete bags for a woman and I asked her, “you wanted eight?” to confirm how many she requested. She asked back, “do I want a date??” Anyway, I was too shy to pretend that I was asking her out, so this comment is only sort of about dating.
A clear plastic cup and a paper card large enough to cover the opening… Wait for the fly to land on a window, and approach slowly with the cup while distracting them with your other hand. When close, cover the fly by pressing the cup on the window and slip the card underneath the opening. It helps if the fly has tired itself out first. Works well for all manner of bugs.
That’s what I’ve heard as well. Passing them on the street you’d probably think they weren’t even homeless at all. Not everyone finds it possible to get their life together that much, though :/
It’s either a sign of false leadership, or it’s the type of behavior we value in our leaders. Either way, it doesn’t look good.
The safety net has people-sized holes in it. I nearly became homeless in June, and it wasn’t the state that came through for me, it was a relative. Even though I’m stll sleeping on a porch, I count myself lucky.
The programs that are supposed to help people stay housed are failing: not enough funds for housing vouchers, restrictions too high for enrollment, and waiting lists too long for practicality.
And Gavin is a wannabe autocrat. If it weren’t for him and his vetomania, we would have legalized natural psychedelics in CA by now. But no, instead we have people out there getting sick from sketchy products. And it seems like it’s the same with everything: do the exact opposite of helping while making it look like you care.
Edit: there are decent leaders out there though, such as this mayor who lived as a homeless man for a week to gain some insight on the matter.
Grants Pass has just one overnight shelter for adults, the Gospel Rescue Mission. It has 138 beds, but rules including attendance at daily Christian services, no alcohol, drugs or smoking and no pets mean many won’t stay there.
Crammed in with potentially dangerous people, having to attend services for a religion you don’t believe in, risking loss of your belingings and with rules disallowing self-medication, all to sleep in a place that makes you send away a beloved family member. None of that sounds humane.
One designated camping site will allow people to stay up to four days, while the other three allow people to stay for one day.
Imagine not having a home and being hungry a lot and tired from a lack of sleep. And now picture having to move around constantly. This is cruel but typical treatment thanks to cities like Grants Pass.
More than 650,000 people are estimated to be homeless]
Some over at r/homeless believe this number might be much higher. Evidently many people live in cars, but to keep a car you must have a home address, so many people fake it. This makes them look housed on paper. (Disclaimer: I’m not homeless and I don’t drive, so I don’t know the full truth of that.)
If you wanted it for therapeutic use, you’d have to jump through hoops and spend a lot of $ just to get little bit. Meanwhile, cops can have you sedated with it at will.
I’ve never used ketamine, but if it’s anything like similar dissociatives, an unexpected trip could be very disturbing. And on top of the other abuses from police, I can imagine the whole ordeal would cause life-long trauma (if you survived in the first place).
Unfortunately you’re correct. Even if not everyone is funneled into the prison system, their belongings get taken away and/destroyed. Some even lose beloved pets. I imagine it’s extremely demoralizing having your life broken down to zero and having to rebuild again and again.
