or like twenty cumulative minutes of fiery pain (carolina reaper).
For a single reaper, sure. For the entire container of them that’s probably at least the rest of your day ruined.
One of them chopped finely in a stir fry is fine, but only if you’re looking to eat something actually hot. For a crock pot full of a chilli meat/bean sauce, one reaper and a couple of bhut jolokia is about right for a nice medium heat.

32·11 days agoEye for an eye isn’t bullshit. It’s saying to always make sure the punishment is proportional to the crime. Before that you’d get people being punished much more harshly than their crime could possibly justify. We still do, of course, but we used to as well.

18·11 days agoAbolish private prisons. Because there shouldn’t be a profit motive involved in housing inmates.
And yes, abolish the death penalty. Because the state can’t be trusted to get it right, and it’s cheaper to just lock people up for the rest of their lives if necessary.

2·20 days agoThe farming corporations are mostly family farms. The average small farmer is a millionaire with a six figure income. I recommend looking at the youtube channels “Farm to Taber” and “Farming While Beige”. I haven’t found where the former talked about the More Perfect Union videos yet, but the latter posted the following:

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux kernel devs drop obligatory confession of AI tool usage
211·20 days agoIf the code is obvious crap, it doesn’t matter if AI was involved. If the code is perfectly obviously fine, it doesn’t (directly) matter if AI was involved.
In the grey area in between, if someone doesn’t say AI was involved it might mean AI was used undisclosed to vibe code the result from beginning to end. If someone said AI was involved, it might mean AI was used solely to speed up testing to track down the cause of the bug. In the former case, you’ll get nothing useful out of the submitter; in the latter case the submitter can engage usefully in pushback on their proposed flawed fix. In neither case did the AI disclosure (or lack thereof) actually help.
And that’s more or less where this news comes from - the tool usage disclosure turned out to not be useful, partly due to the vagueness of the method of disclosure (a tag in the commit message), partly due to people not reliably following the requirement, so they decided to stop requiring it.
I’m not going to start using AI voluntarily any time soon, but I’m also not going to start panicking that the kernel is suddenly completely turned into vibe coded AI slop like so many crazy people seem to have been doing lately.

And, of course, we all know which president said “take the guns first, go through due process second” during his first term. But, to be fair, Obama’s been living rent-free in that guy’s head for more than a decade…

11·20 days agoIgnore pretty much anything farming related from More Perfect Union - they tend to provide farm lobby propaganda without actually fact checking it. I’ve become much more sceptical of their other coverage based on how bad that segment of it seems to be.

2·28 days agoOk, well done, you may have just gone some way towards proving the guy’s point. Ugh.

They hooked some scientists up to some electrodes, picked the ones that glowed the brightest, and then made them take an IQ test. The AI scored higher. Some have suggested the scientists may have scored higher if they were removed from the electrodes first.
