Textbook statistics don’t really hold when you have a huge selection bias, as just about any poll does.
Meh. Often quite accurate, if you read the small print and caveats. It’s not 1980. Good pollsters don’t just do landline surveys, they correct for demographic factors, and are transparent about flaws and limitations.
IME the problem is usually how the media reports on said polling.
Probably inflation.
You don’t need to poll everyone to get relatively accurate polling results.
I have a related degree, it is possible with the necessary caveats, margins of error and confidence intervals. Statistics is a wonderful thing.
This being said, I actually read the full 77 page document they linked to, and if I’m not mistaken the 55% comes from a 2021 telephone poll. Obviously phone only polls are likely to be biased, even if you correct for demographic factors like age.

Depends. The cover is resting on the inside lip which prevents moisture getting in. Ie. this cover is actually significantly bigger than the hole it’s covering.
Eg. if this cover is 25x25, but it’s covering a hole which is less than 18x18 (c=25.5), it’ll be quite hard to drop the cover in.

It’s really strange that it’s square and not round.
It’s not even slightly strange. These are incredibly common all across Europe and the world.
It’s a small cover, almost certainly to service the nearby drainpipe or perhaps for the water or gas connection to a house.
The chance of it falling in the hole is zero unless you’re trying to do it on purpose. Lift and slide, done.
And even if it does fall in, you can simply reach in and pull it out.

Given there’s suggestions he has Parkinson’s or has dementia, it might also be the medication. Something like haldol, even in low doses, will make him sleepy.
TBF he’s old. I had trouble staying awake in class when I was in my teens and twenties. No surprise an old man has similar issues during a long day in court.
Perhaps if he hadn’t gone around calling his opponent ‘sleepy’ for years on end, people would have been more charitable and assumed he’d simply slept poorly.
