Sometimes the user experience is so slick its boring. But the great past of.linux is even when the usage is simple I can always tweak it or modify it to my exact liking.
On Mac it either works nicely or I’m fucked.

At Christmas the topic of what videos we watch came up and I was shocked to hear over half the people there mention watching AI videos. Its insane, these are decent intelligent people watching shit like that stupid weightlifting cat and bigfoot vlogging. It seemed mostly because they couldn’t get rid of YouTube shorts but still. The family members who used Instagram had it way worse they only consumed reels slop and didnt watch any long form video. It was really are “we are so cooked moment”.
There are versions that ship with the proprietary nvidia driver. The reason people have issues is the distros shipping the open version due to philosophy or distros shipping the open version for compatibility reasons. The open version is worse but at least it works the proprietary version doesnt support a lot of cards.
Thats not actually a problem. Every other OS has that problem.
Mac will never get 100% market share because there will always be people that hate their workflow. Linux can offer a tailored version to everyone’s liking.

Dual booting is fine. Microsoft destroying bootloaders is mostly a meme off a few bugs. Any distro that ships an up to date kernel and drivers is good. Fedora/Ubuntu. Bazzite is kinda weird for gamers because it just makes every problem harder to solve. If you never tinker then its fine but Bazzite feels more restrictive than windows without knowing how it works.
There was a YouTuber I like who went to view some of the new state of the art factories and they were operating at 1/6 capacity due to very low demand. The world economic terrorism trump is doing is making it tough out there for every country.
Curiosity and fate. I was perfectly happy on windows but I was listening to the WAN show and they were talking about their 30day linux channel. About 2 weeks before the first ep my windows install completely bricked itself after an update and I couldnt recover the key so I was forced to either pay for windows again or stay on the free version. I ended up installing linux mint and it was an awful experience. Out of the box mint is pretty crap hardware compat wise. I tried a few other distros before settling on Manjaro where everything worked out of the box and from there i started learning linux.
I plan to keep moving distro’s every few years just to see different ways of learning linux. Im currently on Nobara and fedora on my laptop. I think its probably the best linux distro out there(fedora). I’ve tried gentoo but I did not get it working to the same standard as nobara. I do plan to try gentoo again because I liked being able to pick all the stuff on my system and compiling it. I didnt like selecting all the useflags tho.
I really hate windows but I dont find teams to be that bad. Outlook at all the 365 admin tools are far far worse. Luckily we’re moving away towards google and atlassian.

Its not worth switching GPU for this. 3070 should be plenty capable of running witcher3. Ive got a friend running a 3060 and she plays all kinds of games with very few driver issues.
We should troubleshoot your issue first and see if a new GPU is required.

For the actual response. I think this law does partial combat the misinformation,advertising and brainwashing concerns. I dont think we can/need to prevent misinformation, advertising or brainwashing for people over 16 without serious infringement on civil liberties.
For algorithm’s its far less feasible to go after. These companies protect the algorithm because its the core IP of their business. Its not something we can simply get rid of without destroying the most popular feature of the platform.
Well that would be a much bigger line to cross. Its reasonable to say under 16s are to young to navigate the world of online info. But its completely different to say no age can go on the internet.
I didnt need to watch any of the evidence collection videos. I saw the original clip and then the clip where he “showed” the collar. It was pretty obvious he was obscuring the shock part of the collar. If it truely wasnt a shock collar he would have just shown the collar and cleared it up instantly.

Lemmy got a ton of traffic after the api black out and it did an incredible Job at retaining a lot of those users. There were 200k active users and Lemmy was much more unstable at the time. Active users did fall off as expected but 50k stayed for 2 years. Thats great in my opinion. If we had another migration wave I reckon the retention would be even higher.
For someone to switch from reddit to Lemmy three things need to happen
They need to know it exists
They need to dislike reddit or centralised corporate controlled social media on an ideological level.
They need something disruptive to happen. Either a ban or a change they dont like.
