Rather than jump to “trauma” here (and believe me, I say this as a person with PTSD), could you elaborate on what you mean by “fear”?

Have a turtle for your troubles my good fellow 🐢

They like having no competition, by being friendly at first, then crushing us when we let them access our userbase. Defederate, with no second thoughts. If the Meta users want to experience the fediverse, nothing is stopping them from making a Lemmy account on any instance.
The content is facebook-oriented content. Idk if it would even really be the kind of audience that most of the fediverse would be able to sustain.
As it is, reddit was a concern for many people. Facebook? Not a chance.
Besides, large scale defederation discourages Meta from trying to weasel their way into everything like that. Don’t encourage them. They want you excited, but overlooking the massive issues.
I have skills beyond your comprehension
Adjusting slowly. I feel about as isolated with a sense of pseudo-connection that dies off the moment I stop typing my reply here as I did on reddit, if anything less content here with a less aggressive algorithm keeps me from getting into scrolling loops and lets me actually do shit with my day.

Well, that transcribing thing is volunteers, and I brought it with me haha
And thanks!
Haha, back on reddit I got to about 90k, and a good portion of that was transcribing.
I’m actually kind of glad it doesn’t show it here. I get to be judged by the content of my post, not by my accumulation of upvote points.

Like literally these people are all like “FrEe SpEeCh” like dude if you wanna be a Nazi go be a Nazi I’m not gonna stop you but I’m definitely not gonna support you in it. You will get a hearty kick to the nuts if you approach me with it but like you do you
I thought it would be a really hard shift since I used reddit so much. The more I go between them, the more I realize reddit is just another forum website - it’s not even a really good one, either!
This change has been super helpful for me to learn not to get so attached to stuff. The people here are the same as the people there and the stuff I post can go anywhere I want it to, there’s nothing extra special about reddit. It’s super freeing!

As you have no doubt heard by now, Reddit management introduced changes recently that have led to rule and moderation changes across many subreddits. Because of these changes, we no longer feel that Reddit is an appropriate place to post official content or refer our players to.
We want to thank you for all the feedback and discussion you’ve participated in in past changelog threads. You are of course welcome to post unofficial update threads going forward, and if you want to reach the team with feedback about the game, please visit our feedback site at feedback.minecraft.net or contact us on one of our official social media channels.

Fun fact! I’m actually talking to them about it rn, I’m one of the transcribers and there’s been discussions on what to do. From what I’m hearing, they’re considering it, but they aren’t entirely sure about the fediverse or how it works so setting up something the way ToR was run (which was surprisingly sophisticated, with a curated list of different posts to transcribe that would automatically update on progress across reddit) will take some time.
In the meantime I’m looking around rn for any communities here that could use a rogue transcriber to add some transcriptions to some of the posts. I want to try to help blind/VI users feel welcome here best I can. If you have any directions to point me in, please do, because idrk how the fediverse works at all, but it has markdown on mobile so I should easily be able to get some done.
Soup, salad, or sandwich. In that order.
