LLMs are okay at writing code, but not good at software architecture

This is very much the case. I have a local LLM that does a fairly good job of writing code for quick and easy apps that I might need - for instance, last week I wanted to create a simple floor plan of my house and couldn’t find exactly what I wanted online, so I had my machine create a web based app to do it. But, when I tried to use it to create a fairly large and complex text based adventure game when it reached a certain size my LLM just couldn’t handle it any longer. That project stalled for a bit until a couple of weeks ago when Fable 5 was released… as a test I pointed Fable at that code base and in about 45 minutes it had completed the entire game engine.

I really don’t like the idea of corporate owned LLMs, but I am very impressed with Fable and can’t wait until the Local LLM community is able to replicate its functionality.

Back when I used to collect comic books I’d always get excited by the ‘book value’ of something I owned, and my dad would always tell me “No matter what the price guide says, that comic is worth only what someone is willing to pay for it”.

Most people who are going to buy into SpaceX are likely going to do it out of love for space exploration and a desire to be a part of SpaceX.

Even if the stock dips soon after the IPO, getting in early on a huge IPO such as this historically pays off huge in the long run.

It means that data centers will just find a way to have themselves classified as anything except for a data center… meanwhile anyone who happens to have more than 3 computers in their homes will have to pay extra on their electric bills.

To be fair, Google had the ability many years before ChatGPT was released to release a similar product but they purposefully didn’t, and instead they only used it internally. And then when OpenAI did their release Google was one of the voices calling for moderation. They released Bard because otherwise they were going to be left behind, and likely have lawsuits from investors.

Uh, I’ve got some bad news for you …

I have my local LLM currently setup and it runs just as well as Sonnet 4.6 from a quality standpoint, and for performance it is slightly slower but it’s still faster than I can respond.

This is with a Strix Halo APU with 128GB unified memory using the latest Qwen3.6 models with llama.cpp.

That how I feel… but I only ever talk about it to a very small number of people. No one needs to know my shit.

Those are operating costs, I’m referring to control of the board of directors.

Market cap is around $141 billion.

Number of employees is around 60,000.

60% of employees: 36,000.

60% of market cap: $84 billion.

$84B / 36,000 = $2.33 million.

I did some ‘back of the napkin’ math a few days ago to see what it would take for the employees in my company to purchase enough shares for a controlling stake in the company. I figured that we’d never get 100% of the employees to buy in, but we also don’t need 100% of the shares, so to keep it easy I calculated if 60% bought 60% of the shares… and it would cost each employee around $2.3 million.

That tells me that each employee provides $2.3 million worth of value to the company… and we’re not getting paid anywhere near that. Not even close.

When I left one of my prior jobs I wrote up several very cathartic resignation letters… it was good to get it out of my system before doing a proper and professional resignation letter. I’m glad I did because the tech community in this area is very tight and you end up bumping into a lot of the same people over the years.

My cousin gave me a gallon bag of the stuff once… it was all he had left and he just wanted to be done with it. I packed a bowl in my bong and had a huge hit. It last about 10 minutes and I saw some pretty fun stuff (stuffed animals getting up and dancing), but the overall experience was not fun. I handed the rest of the gallon bag off to a friend. That was over 20 years ago and I’m pretty sure that same bag is probably still being passed around.

I saw a new Honda Prelude on the road this week and fell in love with it. Such a beautiful car and looks nothing like when it was first introduced. I had assumed that at this point it would be a full EV, or at least a plug-in hybrid… but no, it’s still just a regular hybrid with a tiny battery. It’s a shame they aren’t trying to push the line more.

I don’t think many reasonable people would hear a person’s attorney make such a statement, especially after a guilty verdict on such a horrible charge, and wouldn’t recognize it as the lawyer just saying what a lawyer should be saying… he’s not trying to persuade anyone other than his client in continuing to fight - because keeping the case going results in more money.
