Maybe I’m a pessimist but this is going to really resonate with the people who are “looking forward to AI” because they read headlines, but haven’t actually used any LLMs yet because nobody has told them how.
Reddit refugee (joined there in 2011, but was not part of Digg before that). IT leader in corp land, but lurker on the internet. I’ll try to talk more on kbin than I did on reddit.

And being marketed as “our first upgrade to PC keyboards in 30 years”. I want to be in the marketing teams conference room when this got pitched.
I’ve enjoyed my time on the fediverse but have been disappointed with the leveling off of growth and lack of participation in niche communities. I still visit Kbin several times weekly, but it isn’t like the old days when I would spend tons of time on Reddit. I have left my old Reddit account redacted and haven’t started using it again, as that time is over. There are some communities and niche interests that unfortunately, it looks like Reddit will always be the main home for since we didn’t hit the critical mass for people to move those communities over here. Because of that, I’ve started a new reddit account (with my real name attached, and started actively participating in those communities). For me, Reddit is no longer a place to anonymously participate in community discussions (because those discussions were becoming increasingly worthless alot of the time), but a place to participate with my IRL identity in communities related to topics or hobbies I care about. The anonymous community stuff is fulfilled by Kbin/Fediverse which I prefer now.
Very disappointed to see my employer on here with a D rating. Internal comms said we were out!
The Beta Band, Vulfpeck, Khruangbin, Holy Hive, Tame Impala, Hippo Campus, STRFKR, Greta Van Fleet
The difference now is that Gab exists and those people have been going over there for a few years now. As long as the fediverse doesn’t become an echo chamber like Reddit I’ll stay happy.
This is great thanks for sharing!
Several of the big subs have switched to a malicious compliance though where they’ve reopened but are nothing like their normal content. It’s not actually against the rules, and seems kind of clever unless I’m missing something?
Favorite thing I’ve read all day aside from Father’s Day cards from my daughters.
@Curtains it definitely wasn’t easy to do. Agree kind of sad, but ousting mods was another red line I felt the crossing of warranted a response. I hope more people keep this up, but also when they are done, fill the hole in their entertainment, education/educating etc time on the Fediverse with us.
Cheers, 🍻
“i can’t wait for grassroots decentralization of the internet, including video” 🍻
There is something going on though, as posts show more comments than I’m seeing loading in Apollo, and also new posts/threads are locked for comments. Dissenting mods in the team who have yet to be removed?
Moving to the new, better online community and leaving Reddit to become what it becomes now is winning, in my opinion.
“I think the fun part of reddit is over.” Upvoted until I saw this, and had to comment to say you are absolutely right. Reddit will live on for now but the fun times feel over.
I assume the $$$$'s caused some amnesia and a change of heart for spez. It really is sad to see this message and think about how exciting Reddit was back in the old days. But on the flip side I definitely feel like kbin/fediverse/lemmy is capturing some of that spirit.

-Napoleon said this in 1805; in 1812 he invaded Russia, seven years after the quote.
