I don’t know who needs to hear this, but last weekend I got the shits with my Worx Landroid robot mower blades being a complete pain in the butt to change and decided to do some sweet mower hacks to make it accept Husqvarna Automower blades.

The Worx blades are mounted to female thread embedded in the cutting disc, which has a shoulder that prevents the blade from binding on the thread. The trouble is the screws end up tight as a nuns nasty due to that shoulder deforming slightly, and trying to get them out usually involves lots of cussing and vice grips.

I also have a Husqvarana Automower which has the same style of cutting disc (as pretty much all robot mowers do), but the screws have the shoulder built in to the fastener itself. This means the screw is sacrificial to some degree, and all the wear happens on the screw which you replace every time you change blades. They are easy to get out no matter how damaged the blades get because the female thread is completely embedded in the disc and doesn’t deform.

Both mowers have the same thread size and pitch, and use a very similar type of blade… So an idea was born.

I took the Worx Landroid cutting disc off, busted out the grinder and ground off the shoulders so it’s all perfectly flush, and fitted Husqvarna “Endurance” blades and fasteners. Voila! The Worx Landroid works perfectly, but now has blades that automatically swap around so you get to use more of the blade, and when it is time to change them the fasteners actually come out easily.

Also it means I’ve consolidated my consumables so can bulk buy the “Endurance” blades and not buy two sets.
