I’m in for wc2 but only after fiddling for 45minutes with a single lan cable to direct connect our 2 (heavy!) pc’s without a lan nor internet! (if i hear the word wifi i will turn my head sideways in confusion).
Did you need a crossover cable for that back then? I think later on the NICs could figure that out themselves.
Fiddling with network settings to get it to work is literally why I remember Warcraft.
Where the first two hours are trying to get the network stable.

Some of my friends have moved to another europe so there’s only a small window that our schedules are free, and now everyone has kids, so you plan something but after you coordinate schedules it’s a month and a half away, but then someone’s kids are sick that day and somebody else forgot their in laws were coming to town, so you have to postpone another month.
So make it a regular party instead of a housewarming one

Legitimately though, nobody was lonely at my friend Kevin’s house staying up until 3 am on a Friday taking turns playing Halo on split screen (losers swap out, of course).
We’d talk about life and girls and stuff between rounds and teabagging. It was really good times.
I went to one of those at my friends’ high school when I was a teenager. It was a lot of fun and I knew most of the people there.

Wiring up Xboxes and playing with the duke was great but those early days of wacky forge builds and revolving game modes like rocket race was peak Halo
Seems like the further we get away from LAN parties and towards everyone online in an open world from their own couch, the worse Halo gets.
