    OP, I’m not sure whether you intended to submit this image or a larger image and accidentally submitted a thumbnail, but this thing is 96 pixels on each side…

      Hmm, for some reason you’re only seeing the thumbnail. It’s normal on my end. Are you on a Lemmy client or browsing on a mobile browser perhaps? Though I checked and it’s fine on Voyager at least.

      It’s also possible that ImgBB is blocked on your end. I’ll put an Imgur version when I’m on PC.

        I’m using the Lemmy Web UI on lemmy.today. I also checked on your home instance’s (programming.dev) Web UI as well, on the off chance that this was some sort of, oh, PieFed/Lemmy incompatibility or something like that, as I have seen that before, or a Lemmy version compatibility issue, and it also shows the 96 pixel thumbnail.

        https://programming.dev/post/57561769

        EDIT: For completeness, also tiny in Blorp and Eternity on lemmy.today.

          Added an Imgur version to the main post, hopefully you can see that one.

          By the way, there is something weird happening with ImgBB. I tried to upload to Imgur using ImgBB link and it uploaded as the thumbnail, no idea why but they seem related.

              Thanks for the feedback. I was initially using Imgur for my image dump for some years but some users reported that Imgur is blocked where they live so I started using ImgBB instead. However sometimes I get feedback like yours that they cannot view the image, well not exaclty like yours but similar. So I haven’t find one where no one has problems yet.

          When I click on that programming.dev link I get the full picture instead of a thumbnail. Using Firefox on Android.

          I also see the full picture in Jerboa. So maybe a problem of your device?

            If so, the problem shows up on the two different networks, on two different devices, and on three different software packages that I tested it on.

    The trick with emacs is to get a keyboard where you can press CTRL with your palm instead of fingers. I’ve been really doing it until I switched to zed.

      Just swap Left Control and Caps Lock.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout

      Many Unix workstations (and also home computers like the Amiga) keyboards placed the Ctrl key to the left of the letter A, and the ⇪ Caps Lock key in the bottom left.

      The problem is that Control on PC keyboards is in a place where it’s really uncomfortable to use on a very frequent basis. Giving Caps Lock, which virtually nobody uses terribly heavily, that prime piece of real estate is just nuts.

      On Debian Linux, that’s:

      /etc/default/keyboard:

      XKBOPTIONS="ctrl:swapcaps"

      And:

      # dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration
      # service keyboard-setup restart

      That’ll handle the Linux console and X11/Wayland. Only place you’ll ever see Control in its PC location then is in the bootloader and BIOS.

      That’ll also cover laptop internal keyboards or something like that, where you are gonna have limited options for hardware alternatives and can’t use exotic keyboards.

        The position of Caps Lock is because on mechanical typewriters, the shift lock key physically held down Shift using a push-to-toggle mechanism. (Windows’ default German layout still does that! “German extended (E1)” and “German (IBM)”, aka DIN T1, don’t.)

          Hmm. Left Control is still adjacent to Shift, though.

          searches

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_Corona

          This 1930s US Army typewriter has a Shift Lock, but it’s up where 1 is today, not adjacent to Shift. I don’t think that it’s essential, even with a mechanical coupling, to have them adjacent.

          thinks

          I mean, I’d think that unless maybe you have one of those electric typewriters with an LCD display, there isn’t a Control key at all, so I totally get giving the slot to Caps Lock on a typewriter then.

            This Shift Lock is still directly above the Shift key. But nevertheless, we needn’t worry about that. We also put 6 symbols on one type, and decide whether a key is dead based on modifiers. (e.g. AltGr+J is the cedille)

        For people that type a lot using Level 3 (e.g. using the QWERTZ layout), AltGr on Caps is probably more important. On NixOS, it’s set with two options:

        {
          services.xserver.xkb.options = "lv3:caps_switch_capslock_with_ctrl";
          console.useXkbConfig = true;
        }

        The kernel console REALLY doesn’t like E1 putting the lv5 switch on <M-f>, and instead deletes the f key, so don’t use the second option if your layout does that. (Just try it out and don’t gc until you’ve verified all keys work.)

    Yes, identify is a valid Linux command-line command, but it is not a native shell built-in or a core operating system utility. Instead, it is an external command that belongs to the widely used ImageMagick suite of tools.
