Hi, folks!
I am not a fan who can cite trivia and remembers detailed plots of all episodes, so please do correct me if I am wrong.
Watching the 2026 season of Futurama, I feel that it is less kind than the previous ones. From Leela saving Bender “if we have time,” through Bender telling Professor “I hate you,” to Fry being repeatedly slapped, it seems different. Maybe livelier, but in a way how Archer was livelier than Futurama.
Do you get the same feeling or is it me getting older?
It’s hard. Season 1-5 were the sweet spot, they still had a lot of room to move, they had funding coming out thier asses and a gaggle of real 100% nerd writers to find every math trick and concept in the book to wrap witticisms around.
We’re now in double secret overtime, they’re probably staffing it a minimum viable and looking for low-hanging fruit interactions to keep us engaged. Love it for what it still is and hope nobody dies before they’re done telling the story… a second time
You call yourself a Futurama fan? *slap* j/k
Being nearer your described hardcore fan I admit that sometimes to newer seasons do take some time to grow on me. This feeling goes way back to the first four movies for me. The Hulu releases really seem to convey that the writers are “here under duress”. I don’t know if it’s just that I’m hungry for a fresh taste of our Planet Express crew but I’m mostly enjoying the current broadcast season. Maybe my expectations have adjusted?
Maybe…
I previously had no issue with movies or “revived” seasons, that’s the first change I am unhappy about
Season 5 was the last good one. Don’t @ me.
The new seasons are 40% good
clank, clank
I think we can look at this from the perspective of this community: when the exodus from Reddit happened after the APIcalypse in 2023, this community blew up in both membership size and excitement for the new season. Since then it’s been basically silent starting with the end of the first Hulu season.
I don’t think the longtime fans have loved the Hulu seasons (I haven’t). I don’t think anyone truly hated them either. They’re only okay.
They also grow on me over time, but I will never love them the same as the way I loved the original Fox seasons.
