I saw zero difference between them.
ubuntu docs say gnome classic is traditional gnome version. but the only difference I saw was that the font seemed a bit bolder there.oh, and they were pre-installed.
It should look closer to gnome3

GNOME Classic looks like GNOME 3. But Ubuntu doesnt use GNOME too, they highly modify it too.
So you dont get the best experience anyways.
One is x11 and the other is wayland. I found a difference on the value of $PATH var between them

sudo apt install vanilla-gnome-desktopGnome Classic is a good option for older people who did not grow up with computers but learned to use Windows at work. The traditional look helps them to find the programs they need while everything else is modern.
And it helps the younger people helping the older ones, because under the hood, all is new and shiny. (:
Nah, that’s just one. I have GNOME (xorg, classic, Wayland), hyperland and KDE.

Anyway, Gnome classic works with wayland, because it is just a set of extensions.
😂ahh, I see, never tried classic, since I’m more the top notch rolling release guy (running openSuse tumbleweed and arch on my PCs)
