    When asked if he had been bitten by ticks, his wife said he had in the past and that, earlier in the summer, he has at least 12 or 13 “chigger” bites around his ankles. Researchers said that in the eastern U.S., what are sometimes referred to as “chiggers” are often larvae of lone star ticks

    TIL. What an unpleasant and unexpected way to go. Even if they’d considered alpha gal, he could have rightfully said “well it’s not like anyone has ever died from it” and opted to wait to see if symptoms continued. I’ve had a bad stomachache after a meal before, and I wouldn’t immediately jump to this as a possibility, especially if I didn’t know I’d been bitten by a lone star.
