    AC replacements typically run 15-20K for a decent system, install and all. At least last time I had to check.

      Then I guess I’m never replacing mine. It’s not like HVAC technology has advanced much in the past 100 years, beyond the switch to R-134A from Freon. Most tech advancements are made on the thermostat-end. The system itself is ridiculously simple; usually just 3-4 wires (A/C on/off, Heat on/off, fan on/off, and sometimes a separate power wire).

        Heat pumps are the way to go. Or conditioning air with well water temps or ground temps other ways, 50 degrees year round 6 feet down usually.
