Ian Roberts, superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools, was arrested and detained Friday after fleeing ICE agents during a traffic stop in Des Moines. The school board voted Saturday to put him on administrative leave. Since his arrest, community members have rallied across the state to show their support for Roberts.
ICE is saying he was born in Guyana and entered the country in 1999 (which would’ve been after he was 5, but I think it’s totally possible he grew up in Brooklyn and then visited Guyana in 1999 and that’s what they’re calling his entry to the country), the school district is saying he was licensed by the state of Iowa and passed a background check so they had no reason to doubt his citizenship status and they "have not been able to verify as to whether that information [what ICE is claiming] is accurate,”
