Wednesday: "Charlie Kirk was a martyr for free speech

Thursday: “Anybody that says anything I believe is mean is a terrorist that will have their visa revoked!”

Also Thursday: "By spreading his message of exclusion and hate, Charlie Kirk was equivalent to MLK spreading a message of equality and love.

Hot fucking take here. Charlie Kirk was an insufferable asshole, but I don’t support murder and there is no justification for him being assassinated. People are free to disagree, but I believe ignoring the rule of law when it’s convenient is never anything but a slippery slope. Especially right now.

The fact that Kirk is being turned into a martyr by the right is probably the least surprising thing to happen since that birthday book confirmed what we all already knew about Trump. So of course they want to honor their martyr for free speech by threatening to punish anyone who disagrees with the narrative they’re trying to create.

That’s to be expected when you believe in a natural hierarchy and order that allows you, and only you make the rules and decide how they’re applied. Some people count and some people don’t. But that’s not how the rule of law works, and again nobody likes a slippery slope.

This is exactly why I believe it’s very important that we all acknowledge Charlie Kirk was an insufferable asshole. I get that it’s in bad taste and poor manners to speak ill of the dead. But manners and taste aren’t the rule of law, and free speech isn’t your personal snowflake shield. So fuck off with that bullshit.

Insufferable assholes don’t deserve to be murdered for being insufferable assholes, but they also don’t deserve statues that make them out to be something they weren’t. He made his own choices for how he wanted to be remembered, so stop trying to re-write history. If you want to create a statue of a puckered asshole and dedicate it to Charlie Kirk I guess I can’t argue with that.
