lol, no of course not, unless that changed later. I would have noped right out.

Not all of us. I just read what it said on the main page “A community of privacy and FOSS enthusiasts, run by Lemmy’s developers” and thought that sounded good. I’m sure a lot of people that were new to lemmy figured the instance run by the devs themselves would be a safe bet. There also wasn’t nearly as much drama around .ml back then, but it honestly hasn’t been enough of an issue to make me create an account on a new instance and switch.
They probably use the proprietary Face Off ™ technology.

1·10 months agoYeah, I’m a little jealous of that cool ass setup. I used to have something like it, though not as nice.
I like that “Name” was on there. You know, in case he forgets.

This is true because Linux users know that daemons are something that you can rein in and perhaps restart on occasion.

Honestly, life would be improved if people brought everything on fancy wooden planks. I would replace FedEx and UPS in a heartbeat if my stuff arrived like that instead of being spiked onto the ground like a volleyball.

1·10 months agoInteresting, I never saw either Thexder or Socerian in local stores at the time, nor I had even heard of them. It doesn’t look like GOG has them listed, but I’ll keep an eye out so I can possibly give them a try.

1·10 months agoCome to think of it, I think it was parallax scrolling that Id Software figured out that hadn’t been done properly before. I had never encountered any of the Japanese DOS games in the DOS days. I imagine there just wasn’t distribution of then in the US I guess. I would have loved to see some Nihon Falcom games.

2·10 months agoI loved both for what they were. There were a bunch of great arcade games ported to NES they were just totally different, but awesome games and both Ninja Gaiden and Double Dragon are on that list. Strider was a notable one too, where the NES was great, but so hard most people couldn’t get to see much of it.

3·10 months agoI don’t feel that those ports, or this Ninja Gaiden one, were horrible or “mistakes” (I owned this game and Megaman 3 for DOS). The PCs at the time didn’t have the specialized hardware to do smooth side scrolling, and John Carmack and crew’s novel way to do it without the hardware was still their secret. It was honestly the best side scrolling game you’d find on PC despite the jank.

I believe this to a degree based on my personal experiences with being thought of as either a brilliant wizard or evil hacker for unimpressive things. It even would happen at different jobs until my current job where my boss is the opposite. he thinks that anything and everything is possible and should be “easy” despite being technically illiterate. His new AI obsession has made it so much worse. I actually miss the super annoying “OMG you can do that? You’re a wizard/hacker/demigod!” days.
