Nah, someone just darkened/changed the contrast of the top image. Notice how the white snow has no details in the bottom image but it does in the top. And the bottom image the splotch on the wall is the same shape but larger. It’s just the contrast slider.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•RIP Discord: Self-Hosted Discord Alternatives Tested (TeamSpeak, Stoat, Fluxer, Matrix, & More)English
21·18 hours agoHonestly if you’re that worried about it, I’d just wait and not use anything. Instead of wasting time trying to find a product that probably won’t get better, you can wait and get Fluxer when they make it ready.
Or you could pull stoat and modify the code yourself.

1·23 hours agoAre you talking about self hosting for fluxer? They explicitly state in their documentation they don’t want people using the current version because they’re doing a rewrite, so you should wait.

Programming@programming.dev•(Github scam do not click links) Solana grant by GhoulStatesman
7·1 day agoYeah this is a new type of scam where they duplicate issues on a new repository and tag users to get them to go to the fake repo thinking it’s a repo they are in usually.
Explain why.

Technology@lemmy.world•Firefox's beta feature "Smart Window" shared browsing and search history to AI models without promptingEnglish
11·3 days agoIt’s difficult. If people don’t support Firefox then the downstream browsers that everyone in this thread are suggesting are fucked. And we’re stuck with chrome and safari. But if people support Mozilla too much then they’ll just do whatever they want, like this AI nonsense.

51·3 days agoThe latest Firefox release added a button that does exactly what you want. Turns off AI everywhere.
For those that don’t know, that’s a very famous Steve Jobs quote. Tim Apple is just repeating it

1·3 days agoWell for things that aren’t my media collection (why would I care about a bunch of movies I can redownload at any time?) I use restic to Wasabi. I also have a secondary backup using the backblaze docker container which keeps prices very cheap.

31·4 days agoMost people with media collections use unraid or truenas, not an off the shelf nas. You can build an unraid server with almost anything. My unraid server has 27TB and that’s quite small in the community from what I have heard.

Programming@programming.dev•is it a security issue that All the supabase requests are coming directly from client instead of the backend ( vercel ) ?
2·4 days agoI don’t really know jack about supabase, but what I’m getting at is that authentication is tied to a user store somewhere. So your user authenticates, they do so against something. Either your server or your database. If they do it against your database, then fine, but how did that user get created? How are they making the connection? How are your policies applied for that user? What keeps a user from spamming your database with login attempts to guess other users or your root db user?
If your users have to authenticate against a server you don’t have to worry about the database. You can use a authentication library for your language and you’re good to go in most cases. You can then also scale your database separately.
Maybe supabase is designed for this, idk, but I personally wouldn’t ever design a site that way, unless it was a very very niche circumstance.

21·4 days agoWhat policies are preventing users from inserting data? If you are asking this question then you very likely should not be doing what you’re doing. There are ways to do it safely, but it’s for very very specific circumstances, with very very specific security setups.

1·5 days agoYeah sidebery is the goat. I too have thousands of tabs open.
Is he saying “your wallet”?
writing lines has never been the bottleneck, that’s only something a junior would say. The bottleneck is always requirements: changing, understanding them, making sure you don’t miss test cases before writing any code.
I thought it said “nerd space” not “third space” and I was like what’s that??!!
My wife and I complain about shows constantly (I’m talking about the shows and movies we like!), pausing to point out every little thing, and I’m in absolutely no way a movie critic, in fact I hate most shows that critics like. If I was to watch a show where I hated every character I would be pausing every five seconds (this isn’t hyperbole, I’m being serious it would be every five seconds) to complain more and more. The show isn’t enjoyable when there’s literally zero reason to like anyone in it.
I never make it to that point, because if there’s only one redeemable quality of each character there’s literally no reason to watch the show at all. I want entertainment, not to be reminded of how shit people are.
I don’t know what your sentence means.

One is a for profit ad company controlled by a homophobe. The other is a non-profit foundation that isn’t… there’s a pretty big difference here.
