Edit: Summary: Rant about RetroAchievements being online only.

I love the idea of RetroAchievements and I used it in the past. But I do not like that the games basically becomes online only titles, if I want keep playing with achievements. Even more so on a handheld, but I also used it on a desktop PC. The moment you lose internet, no achievements can be unlocked. I had those moments (even for longer period of time like days) and I didn’t want continue playing the roleplaying game, because I could miss the achievement. Then I looked what games I could play and decided to play a system where achievements aren’t supported. That was the moment when it hit me. From that day I stopped using it and now I can play whatever I want, whenever I want.

They have their reasons why they don’t want to have offline functionality. But I wish one could setup an offline account that will not interfere with their leaderboards, because they don’t want you to cheat. Yes, that’s the reason… And in fact, if you cheat, you get banned from leaderboards and can still earn achievements; you just can’t participate in the leaderboards. So I do not understand why this cannot be build as a legitimate normal functionality, if they can track it!

The difference of a private chat with an Ai to a public question on Stack Overflow (or any forum for that matter) is, that on Stack Overflow multiple persons can read and comment. Answers often iterate and fact check if someone hallucinates, because so many eyes sees it. If the answers are helpful is something everyone has to decide themselves, but the principle of an open platform being very useful is undeniable.

Compare this to your private Ai chatbot. Only one person sees the answer and if something hallucinated is in there or the quality of the answer is not good, then you might not know. And those Ai bots are controlled by the few big corporations, maybe a little less if you use a custom offline bot, but they are probably not as good as the big models. That’s why this is a bad trend. I think the open and user controlled Stack Overflow was a better approach, by principle.

No, read again what I explained before. I explained the technical problems of the architectural flaws. There are deep problems with LLMs and I explained why some people have a problem with it. You might not care, but that doesn’t solve the problems.

There is a difference. I explain why you are dishonest and misleading. I don’t just accuse. So its based off technical reasoning and not just personally attacking without reason. You just have no arguments left and just attack personally instead basing off on reasoning. That is a huge difference.

Unless you have good arguments, LLMs have architectural flaws in their design and need to change. And that is a factual correct statement, which I explained earlier. That has nothing to do with an opinion.

Like most names, it should be written in lower case with an initial capital, that is, “Lua”. Please do not write it as “LUA”, which is both ugly and confusing, because then it becomes an acronym with different meanings for different people. So, please, write “Lua” right!

semantic versioning wasn’t a new concept when semver 1.0.0 was released. Before that lot of projects already followed this scheme and this was just made official so that everyone should follow it as the standard. So its kind of like if all web browsers support non standard features, and then the committee decides to add it to the standard to make it official. My point is, that the release of semver 1.0.0 isn’t the invention of it.

Longtime support (LTS) exists for a reason in the tech industry. Maybe provide an LTS.

You just come up with analogies that does not address the issues I am talking about. We are talking about the source code the LLMs copy and analyze and then not respect the license. They fail to provide the source code and source material they analyzed, so we could build the Ai models from scratch. And I am not talking about the data after training.

Your hammer analogy (and others) are absolutely not addressing any of these issues. Instead you talk about the end user that can misuse the tool, which is NOT what I am talking about. And now you start attacking personally because you ran out of arguments. Just wasting peoples time.

Again wrong analogy just to disagree. That is not the conceptional problem with LLMs I talked about. It is a matter of fact that the LLMs are trained on data without respecting their license such as GPL, even worse when generating content. These are factual problems with the concept of LLMs. This is not like a hammer that was designed for a specific purpose, that is then misused as something else. That is not the issue whatsoever here. The design and philosophy of LLMs is deeply flawed in many ways.

The hammer analogy shows either you try to change the topic, or you don’t understand the issues I’m talking about. That is completely false analogy to the issues I brought up. Same with a knife or even a game controller. Just because you can misuse it, does not mean its wrongly designed. The user didn’t use it properly. That is NOT what I was talking about.
