You’re kind of forgetting about digital cameras. Looking back, I was on my 3rd or 4th digital camera at the time - and Polaroid had been bankrupt for years.

I got married in the aughts, just a few years after Outkast came out with the song Hey Ya, which was a super popular song. Anyway, my wife and I had a Polaroid camera and thought it would be fun to leave it out with a bunch of film so our wedding guests could take pictures of the night for us.

So we went to Target to buy film and ask a teenager working there if they sold Polaroid film. They had no idea what we were talking about. I said remember asking my wife, “So what do you suppose they think that line ‘shake it like a Polaroid picture’ means?”

That teenager would be in their mid-30s by now…

I followed the #2 link he linked about cloud seeding. From the article:

Veteran Houston meteorologist Travis Herzog weighed in this week, calling the theory scientifically unfounded.

“Cloud seeding cannot create a storm of this magnitude or size. In fact, cloud seeding cannot even create a single cloud,” Herzog said. “All it can do is take an existing cloud and enhance the rainfall by up to 20% — and even that is on the high end.”

He compared the theory to blowing out a candle and assuming one could extinguish a wildfire. “It is a matter of scale,” he said.

It’s pretty ballsy to provide a link with someone calling out your bullshit while acting as if that link proves your point.

I did this a few days ago in accident only to basically pass the person in front of me and then sit in heavy traffic for the next 5 minutes.

I could feel their eyes burning into the back of my head, with them thinking “way to go, asshole, you saved yourself exactly 2 seconds by going around me.”

Cars need an “I’m sorry” emote somehow.

I’m super stoked for the Project Hail Mary movie. But I was super disappointed in the trailer, because it shows the WHOLE freaking movie. If you haven’t read the book, you’re far better off skipping the trailer and going in blind.

The Hobbit and LOTR books are actually fantastic to listen to as audiobooks. The narrator (at least in the version I had) sings all the songs.

My company cut funding for traditional projects and has prioritized funding for AI projects. So now anything that involves any form of automation is “AI”.

Lol I was telling a coworker about that the other day and they called me a weirdo. Best way to eat popcorn and keep your hands clean!

My stove won’t preheat, I guess because it’s a safety issue. Apparently you can set a remote start capability ahead of time that gets reset if you open the over door. But I’ve never tried it, since that seems like a lot.

I got new appliances a couple weeks ago and they’re all “smart”. Turns out a smart microwave just sends you a phone notification when it’s done. By default.

As someone with multiple people living in the house, I can confidently say this is the dumbest “smart” feature ever. Promptly disabled.

Holy shit that’s wild. I had no idea the numbers were that high. I always knew the military targeted poor people, but didn’t realize how nearly half of them weren’t citizens.

Which kind of blows my mind. Coal miners should love EVs. There was a story in the news a few years ago about how nice it was for the miners to help someone in an EV, as if they should be mortal enemies.

Non-EV cars don’t run on coal, they run on gasoline. EVs on the other hand can run on coal, natural gas, solar, wind, you name it - and still are more energy efficient than cars burning gasoline. In a sane world, coal miners would be throwing their support behind electric vehicles. The utility companies seem to understand this, but seems like the support hasn’t made its way up the supply chain.
