A couple years for hardware decoders in desktop/laptop graphics cards. More for mobile. A couple more for hardware encoders. Then there’s the AI hardware shortage that’ll make adoption even slower. VVC is already practically dead. It’ll be slow for adoption but AV2 is going to be running almost unopposed with how little has happened with VVC in 6 years

I bought an android box specifically because of the obvious enshittification coming from Roku. Default Android TV sucks. Not as bad as Samsungs but still sucks. Projectivity launcher and others good. Roku, Apple TV, Samsung, LG - all leave you at the mercy of these companies wanting to leech all they can from you

If I wasnt worried about price to performance then I would get that Spacemit k3 riscv laptop. It’ll have an NVME. Should be fine for non heavy tasks. If you are a software developer, it’d probably be good for most tasks. I remember back when all the old Linux elite software developers complained about desktop environments using too much memory on their 512MB memory laptops that are perfectly good software people love to use

I’m long behind on Android development. I stopped not long after Google promoted Kotlin as the primary language for Android development. I really liked Kotlin though. Still these days, I’d probably go with react native or flutter. I always hear about people using those and see job postings for those in regards to android. I’d be interested in using Kotlin Multiplatform and hoping that builds up momentum and becomes super successful

Keepassxc and whatever I’m using off f droid for Android. Then is sync with proton drive. Works well for me. I do the same for my one time password backups. You don’t even need to pay for a subscription to proton. These are small files. Free version is good enough

I turned on my TV that usually auto boots to my onn Android box with projectivity launcher. The new Roku homescreen is trash. They’ve increased ads by like 5x. This is an 8 year old TV. 8 years ago there were no ads. Then a banner on the right side. Then they added a row up top. Now it’s the majority of the home screen. Roku as an operating system no longer needs to exist

Yes it’s expensive. High end snapdragon chips are like $300 for that one component and then now the memory will be of comparable price. Storage is expensive now too. Maybe even more expensive for what will come out this year. Foldables are expensive. Maybe they won’t be someday. Motorola has mid range flip android phones. It’ll be cool to see an Android vendor copy Huawei’s foldable. That looks good. The Razr flip phones are good and their support policy is ok. Used practically new within half a year $500-$600 when they were $1300 when they first came out

Ehh. 7.1 isnt that old. If they don’t make any newer available until 28.04, then this’ll just be a major baseline. It’ll nice regardless just if it leads to more rocm support. The package and maintainers are in place for this to keep going every 6 months

It’s been a year and there’s still no library view. Just scroll a long page of all the games available in the store where the games you own are mixed in. At this point I feel like it’s got to be an idiotic intentional design choice to hope users spend more money during the time it takes to find the games they own

Besides the high end gacha games and a handful of PS3 era ports, it’s all about emulation. PC gaming with Gamehub improves as FEX/proton/wine improve along with graphics drivers

Open source graphics drivers for the snapdragon 8 elite GPU’s should be hitting early next year but is pretty good now. There are early emulators for android for PS3 and X360 just even worse compatibility than on PC so right now the high end and pretty good compatibility platforms for android are Nintendo Switch and PC
