Yeah, the one thing this Admin can’t hide at the end of the day is how much money has been evaporated between the war and whatever financial schemes they’ve enacted along the way. Hope the Repubs love paying for that

As a non-dev person who recently started using AI to get into doing some computer programming, I think the marketing by the CEOs has done a lot of harm. People who truly know what they’re doing and who are very careful thinkers could see all along that this technology is not at a point to where the following hype was true:

-it will not entirely replace human workers,

-it’s almost certainly not going to be better at what it’s doing than a true expert,

-and it remains to be seen whether or not it will ever be able to generate truly unique, bespoke, and fundamentally new solutions… you know, like what humans had to do for every single issue that came before…

And what it’s really good at from my perspective is allowing a non-expert person to generate productive materials in an area where they are not a master-level technician/developer/knowledge worker. It has really dissolved the barrier of entry and the value associated with routine technical skills, for better or worse.

The practical issues though involved with massive data centers, the price rises associated with computer parts, and all the other environmental garbage that’s happening is pretty discouraging though. This technology has legit potential for benefit, but the companies and CEOs have ultimately made it into a moral conundrum whether or not it should be put to use.

I did look up sales volumes/revenue as I was typing my original comment and was pretty disappointed seeing the endless rise. My values seem to drift further from society’s every year it seems lol… maybe for the best…

Not sure if this is in response to internal bean counters or reduced external demand, but it doesn’t even make sense to buy from them without Prime nowadays. I can literally get items from almost any local store the same day or next day for cheap or free. Some online retailers can get me stuff same week, and Amazon with their massive warehouse down the block can’t do it within five days most of the time unless I pay for shipping… At which point I’d rather just shop almost anywhere else.

I refuse to subscribe to Prime because I’m sick of all these companies trying to lock me into their own business. I’ll just go source locally, shop around online, or pay the shipping at Amazon once every two months when I truly can’t find what I need at a reasonable price anywhere else.

Someone should tell them that the people who actually didn’t make it through were the 180-ish little kids that were bombed by an American missile in the middle of their school day over in Iran. Stand by and watch how the Religious Right try to argue they were child terrorists or something abysmal like that. Gas can cost 20 dollars per gallon and it doesn’t even compare. I’m just going to remind everyone conservative of that every time they mention anything about affordability.

I saw the video of Vance berating Good and fanning the flames of the fire. The way he speaks appears strong to people who can’t think for themselves, and who lack their own moral compass. Truly a nation of weak, heartless automotons we’ve found ourselves amongst.

AI doesn’t really do anything for me. It doesn’t give me more money, take care of my plants, clean my house, or improve my relationships with the human beings around me.

I’m sick of caring about increasing my “job productivity”, which is all it -might- do, and that’s debatable. It’s probably just trying to learn how to do my job so we need less humans working in the end. Sounds amazing, but inside of capitalism, it just means they’ll starve.

Yeah, I was going to make the same comment but saw this before I could post. We have Trump and his MAGA cronies to thank for this proliferation of political extremism. The extremists on the Right are going to keep stoking the fire and it looks like they’re motivating people to respond. I can only imagine this is what Trump wants in order to justify further crackdowns and witch hunts, like he’s done with the National Guard, ICE, etc.

Yeah, let’s just ruin everyone’s credit with medical debt so we can stop buying bullshit overpriced cars and accruing ludicrous quantities of credit cards. The main downside I see is if this acts as another barrier to home ownership. But then, of course, the banks will begin getting pissy if they can’t loan to anyone.

I can only see this backfiring on the economy–theres only so much money allocated to people’s pockets, and this is the federal government deciding that the medical industry gets to have a larger share of it.
