14·10 hours agoI was thinking the same, I’d like more context though, if it’s a quick throttle blip (or like if they’re driving stick and need to reverse the car up a slope) could be understandable. If they’re bouncing it off the rev limiter for a minute that’s a different kettle of fish. Given the rest of the post I’m erring on the side of it being blown out of proportion.

2·2 days agoThis is a pet peeve of mine irl, people adding “ator” or “isation” or “ise” or similar to words to make new words we already have words for.
“We need to solutionise this problem”
No, fuck off, we already have the word “solve” we don’t need a new word, it doesn’t make you sound smarter, it makes you sound like a fucking moron who doesn’t know the word solve.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Experienced Linux users, what are you using?English
2·2 days agoNone of which makes the distro shite. The things I remember them getting shit for are:
Unity/mir
Upstart
Snaps
Amazon ads
Advertising their premium version.
Of all of those the Amazon thing is the only one I have a strong objection to. The rest I can’t say I’ve even particularly noticed the changes if I’m honest and most other Ubuntu users probably haven’t either. They seem to get a lot of crap for “doing their own thing all the time” which seems odd coming from the Linux community.
I came to Ubuntu initially because it was the new hotness, I’ve never really had an issue with it functionally in 12 years or so, so no real need to change.
Why not deb? Why not any number of other distros? I do run deb on my NAS as it goes and I’m not trying to stan for Ubuntu (honestly) but it gets a lot of undeserved hate. It’s not a super exciting distro or anything but it tends to work fine for me.

8·3 days agoDoes anyone know the name for the sensation where you stretch and suddenly your innards feel all wrong, almost like being on the verge of a cramp but not and you suspect that if you don’t return relatively quickly but gently to an unstretched position that something may go badly wrong inside?

2·10 days agoReally? They did a ton of work to make Linux accessible to the masses, have an active and helpful community to help out if you get stuck, works really well out of the box on most hardware and you’re pretty much guaranteed there’s going to be a compatible deb available for it if you’re looking for software outside normal repos. Seems like a no brainer tbh.

2·15 days agoI cannot believe the downvoting coming your way for this.
On one - how the abuse of this cannot be foreseen by the most clueless person is beyond me.
On two - are people under the impression that the current child welfare system is adequate for the children that are currently in it? What about that system makes them think it would be suitable to increase the number of children in care.
Fucking mental.
