Technology@lemmy.world•TriZetto confirms 3.4M people's health and personal data was stolen during breach | TechCrunch. ( the company failed to detect for almost a year.)English
381·2 days agoLet me guess: they’re really sorry.
I cannot fathom why such data breaches aren’t prosecuted as crimes of the company as well as the thieves.
This doesn’t happen because the hackers struck like a force of nature, but because the servers aren’t kept secure constantly. Because that would be more expensive.
It’s like a car company getting sued for making insecure cars. It’s not hard to wrap your head around.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•I just want juice, is that so much to ask?English
9·3 days ago100% passion fruit juice? I shudder.
I don’t know how the law is where you are, but around here there’s a clear and simple word for 100% juice. But we also have the “juice drink”. It’s a little sad because people who don’t bother with such things will fall for it over and over. But once you know the verbiage it’s simple enough.
What really fucks me up is how little juice there is in it, and how much fructose syrup. 😡 It’s possible to produce affordable drinks that don’t add any sugar. Apple or grape juice concentrate is cheap.

100% is 100%. But yeah, you probably wouldn’t like the taste.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•The City of Encinitas, California is removing a protected bike lane to replace it with a painted bike lane. Cost? $3 million. The mayor says it's a great idea. English
21·4 days agoThe way that mayor displays empathy for car drivers and very obviously none for cyclists is really something. I won’t even go into details, his arguments are all shit.
Also, I bet they were complaining like hell about how expensive it was when it was built: $4million! And now it costs 3million to remove. As they say, the cruelty is the point.

17·4 days ago- A persistent failure to adequately treat inmates’ health issues with medicine beyond a single dose of Ibuprofen
- A proliferation of diagnoses for serious mental health conditions like schizophrenia that inmates had never suffered from before *
- An overall lack of sufficient calories and vegetables
- Verbal and physical abuse by guards
- Extreme temperatures
- Forced labor
* That’s the worst one IMO. They want to make these people disappear even if their fascist takeover does not go quite as planned. It’s planned. A failsafe. They go to the effort of “encouraging” doctors or even hiring those they know will do their bidding.

Technology@lemmy.world•Nearly Half of Europeans Want X Banned if it Continues to Break the LawEnglish
14·5 days agoNearly half? Sheesh.
Maybe it’s because most Europeans don’t have a strong opinion about X. I really don’t think it’s quite as popular here as in the USA. Which is also the reason many don’t know how unhinged the current admin is.
AI agents are remarkably bad at “self-awareness”
🤔 what does it say when you tell it something like “look, this is wrong, and this is why, can you please fix that”? In a general sense, not going into technical aspects like what OOP is describing.

Seriously, do not trust Musk to build something that works reliably under high stress. Esp. do not entrust human beings to anything Musk builds.

PS: I don’t care if the “actual missile” is not in the pic, they shouldn’t do that, and the later retraction is an admission of guilt.
PPS: could’ve been on purpose though. 50/50 🤷

A DMCA takedown, huh? Sounds a lot like what they did with Youtube-dl a few years ago. And ultimately lost. Both youtube-dl and yt-dlp are still (again) on github.
