Food banks have already been contending with higher food prices and increased need. Administrators say demand will skyrocket if federal nutrition benefits stop in a few days because of the government shutdown.

“The average household that we see receives about $350 per month, which roughly translates to about $44 million worth of SNAP benefits that will be gone from families,” she told NPR. “There is no way that we alone can make up for a $44 million food budget shortfall.”

I think we’ve found out what happens. It’s happening now, and not for the first time.

Most species, we now believe, exist for a few millions of years. We might not even be a million years old, and for most of that we’ve been a constant companion to disaster. An unsympathetic observer might even see it as a defining trait.

Wife and I saw the SNAP suspension coming and dug around in our budget to give what we could split between local and state food banks. Feels like barely anything compared to what’s needed.

How can we not agree on “no hungry children or seniors”? If not just “no hunger”. I guarantee we’re net losing money by not feeding our people. How is it that the cruelty is really the point? I can’t wrap my head around it

I remember when Faux was spending untold hours of air time concerning itself over people eating steak and lobster on SNAP benefits. I know lots of Karens constantly concern themselves with how people on SNAP might buy…SODA! Republicans work to pass legislation to exclude certain foods from SNAP use. I am quite sure a lot of total asshats think those on SNAP benefits should just be subsisting on something like stale bread and water.

I mean, with attitudes out there on prominent display, the ghoulishness is there for all to see…for some reason, there is no big movement to police what the idle rich/parasitic class eat, though.
