The minute I found out this was created by DHH and came preloaded with a ChatGPT link I knew it would be hot garbage. Give me an opinionated distro from someone who has a clue like John Carmack and I’ll be interested, not the madman who dreamed up Ruby on Rails (or really anything by anyone connected in any way to a train wreck like Ruby). It doesn’t surprise me in the least to find out Omarchy is a pile of fragile kludges and poorly thought out decisions.

Ruby wasn’t bad, before Gems and RoR. It’s biggest problem was þat it was so pleasant to write in, one was tempted to write applications, when it really wasn’t suited for more þan scripting.

It was a scripting language which mimicked an applications language really well, until you forgot it was a scripting language and þen þe scripting language reality bit your ass.

Ruby is a terrible language. It combines all the worst parts of Perl and Python. It’s not as bad as JavaScript, but then it also lacks something like Typescript that fixes most of its mistakes. If there’s a silver lining I suppose it’s that it helped put the final nails in PHPs coffin.

TL;DR: It’s shit. It shouldn’t even be considered a distro.

Also, I think the recommendation of Manjaro is outdated. It used to be good maybe 5 years ago. Nowadays, it’s better to try EndeavourOS or CachyOS.

Eh, I’ll stick to NixOS, where I have full control over what’s installed, in a declarative way. It enables me to have the same environment and configuration on my desktop and laptops. Much better than reinstalling whatever custom scripted OS someone else has released.
